The Evidence

Interactive Dramaturgy

January 8, 2007 · Leave a Comment

I’ve been asked to outline and teach a class in Interactive Dramaturgy. As this will be my first attempt with this type of class, I would like to submit my research, syllabus and relevant course materials for a community response (even if only to catalogue the process).

I am thinking that the whole class should focus on the creation of individual research protocols for aiding in the production of interactive media; i.e. the four tier approach to planning for advertising, or the mindmap approach to television dramaturgy.

We’ll see, this should be a fun little experiment. I’ll have the syllabus ready by tomorrow.

A New Dramaturgy

This blog will serve to catalogue the development of an interactive dramaturgy.

As a first order of business, let me attempt to define dramaturgy

Dramaturgy: Dramaturgs contextualize the world of a production; establish connections among its various medias, and ensure the audience is properly targeted. They collaborate to hone visions, and drive creativity to produce more effectively and more often. In short, the art of Dramaturgy is the art of effective planning

Interactive: the interaction of two people or things to establish a confluent whole. In media, the interaction of multiple mediums to stimulate an active audience reception.
